DIN & ISO Standards

The DIN & ISO Standards feature provides a structured interface for searching and filtering relevant DIN (German), ISO (International), and other national and international standards (e.g., ASTM, BS, NF, AS/NZS) related to glass-based materials and their manufacturing, testing, and recycling processes.

Users can explore standards associated with glass, ceramics, glass-ceramics, and refractory materials by applying filters such as Material Types, Process or Test Categories, Issuers (issuing organization), and publication date (Year & Month).

Overview

This feature enables metadata-driven discovery of standards relevant to materials science and glass technology. Rather than hosting full standards documents, it allows users to identify, classify, and reference applicable standards within a unified and searchable framework, forming a basis for structured access and future semantic extensions.

Accessing the Feature

To access the DIN & ISO Standards feature:

  1. Navigate to the SciGlass Next application
  2. In the left sidebar under the Features section, click on DIN & ISO Standards
  3. A dialog window will open displaying the standards search interface

Filters

The filters section allows you to narrow down the standards based on specific criteria. The filter panel is collapsible and can be expanded or collapsed using the arrow icon in the top-right corner of the Filters section.

  • Arrow pointing up – Filters are expanded and visible
  • Arrow pointing down – Filters are collapsed and hidden

Year

Filter standards by their publication year. standard-16.png standard-16-dark.png

The year dropdown provides the following options: - All years (default) - Shows standards from all available years - Individual years from 1961 to 2026

To select a year:

  1. Click on the Year dropdown field
  2. Select the desired year from the list
  3. The selection will be applied automatically

Month

Filter standards by their publication month. standard-17.png standard-17-dark.png

The month dropdown allows you to filter standards by the month they were published. Options include: - All months (default) - Shows standards from all months - Individual months (January through December)

Material Types

Filter standards by the type of material composition. standard-18.png standard-18-dark.png

Click on the All or None buttons to quickly select or deselect all material types. Available material type options include:

  • Ceramic - Standards related to ceramic materials and processes
  • Glass - Standards related to glass materials and processes
  • Glass-ceramic - Standards related to glass-ceramic materials and processes
  • Refractory material - Standards related to refractory materials (e.g., high-temperature resistant materials)

To select material types:

  1. Tick one or more checkboxes in the Material Types list

  2. The section header updates to show how many options are selected (e.g., “2 selected”)

  3. Click All to select all material types, or None to clear the selection

The section header shows (0 selected) when no types are chosen, or updates to show the count of selected types.

Process/Test Categories

Filter standards by the type of process or testing method they cover. standard-19.png standard-19-dark.png

The Process/Test Categories section uses radio buttons to select a single category filter option:

  • Not selected (default) - No process/test category filter is applied

Additional category options may be available depending on the database content.

Issuers

Filter standards by the organization that issued them. standard-20.png standard-20-dark.png

Click on the All or None buttons to quickly select or deselect all issuers. The issuers dropdown provides options for different standards organizations, such as:

  • DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung) - German Institute for Standardization
  • ISO (International Organization for Standardization)

To select issuers:

  1. Click on the All button to expand the dropdown menu
  2. Select individual issuers by clicking on them
  3. Selected issuers will be checked and the count will update in the section header
  4. Click None to deselect all issuers

The section header shows (0 selected) when no issuers are chosen, or updates to show the count of selected issuers.

Results Table

After applying filters, the results table displays matching standards with the following columns:

Table Columns

The results table includes the following information for each standard:

  • Name - The standard identification number (e.g., DIN 52292, ISO 7884-8)
  • Title (De) - The German title of the standard
  • Title (En) - The English title of the standard
  • Date - The publication or revision date of the standard
  • Link - A clickable link to access the full standard document

Empty State

When no standards match the selected filter criteria, the table displays:

"No standards found matching your criteria" standard-22.png standard-22-dark.png

Using the Feature

To perform a basic search for standards:

  1. Open the DIN & ISO Standards dialog window by clicking the feature button in the sidebar
  2. By default, all filters are set to show all available options
  3. The results table will attempt to load standards based on the current filter settings

To search for specific standards:

  1. Select a Year from the dropdown if you want standards from a specific year
  2. Optionally select a Month to further narrow by publication month
  3. Choose one or more Material Types that match your glass composition
  4. Select relevant Process/Test Categories if applicable
  5. Choose one or more Issuers as needed
  6. The results table will automatically update to show matching standards

Accessing Standard Documents

To access a standard document:

  1. Locate the desired standard in the results table
  2. Click on the Link in the rightmost column
  3. The standard document will open in a new window or tab (depending on browser settings)

Notes

Data Availability

The standards database is populated with metadata sourced from official standards providers, including dinmedia.de covering national and international standards. Availability and coverage depend on the underlying data sources and may be updated periodically.

Search Tips

  • Start with broad filters and progressively narrow your search for better results
  • Use the All and None buttons to efficiently select multiple filter options
  • If no results are found, try relaxing some filter criteria
  • The interface automatically applies filters as you make selections

Troubleshooting

No Results Found

If you see "No standards found matching your criteria":

  • Try expanding the year range or selecting "All years"
  • Check if you have too many restrictive filters applied
  • Verify that the Material Type and Issuer combinations you've selected are valid

Failed to Fetch Standards

If you see "Failed to fetch standards":

  • Check your internet connection
  • Refresh the page and try again
  • Contact support if the issue persists

Loading Takes Too Long

If the loading indicator appears for an extended period:

  • Wait a few moments for the server to respond
  • Check your network connection
  • Try refreshing the page if loading doesn't complete after 30 seconds
